Timberrrrrr

Whoa, thar she blows! This new apartment/condo buildings in Shanghai that had just finished construction just totally fell over. There’s two other ones that are completed too … Do you think anybody will be moving in anytime soon? If you take a look at the pictures, it’s crazy because it looks like the foundation was set totally shallow … What even trips me out some more is that the windows are all totally intact! Which just kind of makes me wonder … if the building falling over wasn’t even forceful enough to make the windows break, then it must be totally safe to live in still, right? I mean, shoot man, it was such a soft landing that the glass didn’t even break – how can anybody get injured? Bigups to Ash for the tip!

Per the BBC:

“The building at Shanghai’s ‘Lotus Riverside’ apartment complex toppled over almost intact, killing one worker.

The developers had sold 489 of the 629 flats in the 13-storey building, and owners of the flats are now demanding refunds or compensation.

The event has sparked worries about construction safety in China.

The building, one of 11 in a wider project, fell over early on Saturday when pillars that were supposed to be buried deep under the earth were uprooted.”
